Nursing Care of Clients Experiencing Multiple Traumas

This audio lecture with handout covers the nursing care of a person who has experienced multiple traumas including pre-hospital assessment, primary (A,B,C,D and E) assessment as well as secondary assessment. Discussion includes impact, components, types, and mechanism of injury. This is followed by a discussion of some aspects of nursing care: assessment, diagnostic tests, and medications. Specific injuries include thoracic, long bone fracture, impalement, penetrating, abdominal/GU, and head traumas with consideration to potential complications. It can be used to prepare a pre-licensure nurse for clinical practice, or as a supplement to classroom teaching. This material was developed by Gina Maiocco, PhD, RN, CCRN, CCNS, while she was faculty in the Wright State University-Miami Valley College of Nursing and Health.
