Admission Requirements

  • Completion of a Master's Degree in a clinical nursing major and a minimum of three years of recent acute/critical care experience. 

  • Verification of current RN licensure in Ohio.

  • A curriculum vita or resume summarizing the candidate's clinical/professional experiences and accomplishments.

  • Admission to WSU's School of Graduate Studies.

  • Admission to WSU's College of Nursing and Health.

  • Current ACLS certification (must be maintained throughout graduate studies)

Requirements*

  • To meet the university requirements for a second masters, 33 credit hours must be taken at Wright State University after completion of the first masters.

  • Core Nursing Courses:
    NUR 761 (3 credits) Advanced Pathophysiology
    NUR 762 (3 credits) Advanced Physical Assessment
    NUR 764 (4.5 credits) Advanced Pharmacology
    *Courses taken at other universities may be accepted as part of the requirement. Advanced Pathophysiology will be accepted if a comparable course has been taken within the past five years. Advanced Pharmacology will be accepted if a comparable course has been taken within the past three years.

  • The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program specialty courses consist of the following:
    WINTER: NUR 790 (2 credits) Nurse Practitioner Roles and Issues
    SPRING: NUR 795 (8 credits: 4 lecture, 4 clinical [160 hours]) Managing Common Acute and Emergent Adult Health Problems I.
    SUMMER: NUR 796 (8 credits: 4 lecture, 4 clinical [160 hours]) Managing Common Acute and Emergent Adult Health Problems II.
    FALL: NUR 797 (7 credits: 1 seminar, 6 clinical [240 hours]) Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Practicum.
    Three pharmacology seminars, each 0.5 credits, are conducted in concert with NUR 795, 796, and 797.
    Total credits for the ACNP specialty courses are 26.5. To complete the 33 credits required, elective courses or independent study can be taken.
