WSU-CoNH is pleased to announce a new tract within the ACNP program funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Nursing. This program prepares ACNPs to provide care to patients with or at-risk for heart disease in a variety of settings: tertiary care facilities, subacute care centers, ambulatory clinics, emergency care centers and multi-practice clinics.

In addition to the standard ACNP curriculum, students are required to take three courses related to the care of cardiac patients. Learning also occurs in the cardiology learning lab, which includes Harvey, the cardiology simulator. WSU, CoNH is the only college of nursing in the midwest and the second one in the United States to own Harvey. This simulator allows students to assess the many physical findings associated with patients with cardiovascular diseases prior to their clinical rotations. Harvey simulates the bedside findings of a "normal" heart and 27 cardiac diseases, including hypertension, aortic stenosis, mitral valve prolapse, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and acute inferior myocardial infarction. As one disease is programmed, Harvey exhibits the appropriate physical findings; his heart sounds, pulses and breathing can all change to mimic the signs of the disease. During a physical examination, a student can obtain Harvey's blood pressure, and assess bilateral jugular venous wave forms, carotid, brachial and femoral arterial pulses, precordial movements, heart sounds, and respirations to make the appropriate diagnosis.

Full and part-time study for first and second masters are available. An example of full-time study follows:
