1985
Lori (Sites) Degen (B.S.N.), Sherry (Selhorst) Schmenk (B.S.N.’81), and, Renette Riethman (B.S.N.’97) are staff nurses in the Congestive Heart Failure Clinic at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.
1986
Judy Shonebarger (M.S.) recently retired from her nursing position to care for her new grandbaby!
1988
Deb Foote (B.S.N.) who is a clinical nurse educator at Miami Valley Hospital received one of the Dayton Daily News/Springfield News Sun’s “A Salute to Nurses” award for excellence in nursing and patient care. Although nearly 90 local nurses were nominated by the public for this award, Deb was one of only eight to receive this honor.
1989
Mary E. Murphy (M.S.), director of clinical systems at Hospice of Dayton, won the Oncology Nursing Society Foundation’s national award for patient care in the final stages of life.
1995
Melissa Bryant (B.S.N.) is associate director of the Office of Clinical Affairs for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. She completed a master’s of science degree in Clinical Leadership with a concentration in Clinical Research Administration from George Washington University in May 2006. She resides in Kensington, Maryland with her
husband, Dwayne, and three daughters, Taylor 14, Alexis 10, and, Madison 7.
1996
Marlinda Falknor (B.S.N.) a staff nurse on the Neuroscience Unit at Miami Valley Hospital was selected as just one of eight recipients of the “A Salute to Nurses” award from the Dayton Daily News/Springfield News Sun. Area nurses are nominated by former patients or colleagues for this honor with Marlinda being one of just eight nurses to be selected.
1998
Lisa Moodie (B.S.N.), a staff nurse in the day patient department at the Dayton Heart Hospital was featured in the The Faces of Nursing column of the 2006 National Nurses Week edition of Health Care Today.
1999
Jerry Harvey (M.S.) who is a Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force currently works on education and training in the office of the Surgeon General of the Air Force in Washington, D.C.
2000
Roseanne McKay (B.S.N., M.S.’05) displayed a poster at the 30th Annual Midwest Nursing Research Society Conference held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 31-April3. 2006. Her poster was titled Nursing support of women during labor.
2001
Stacy Friesner (M.S.), Donna Mile Curry, associate professor, and, Gail Moddeman, assistant professor, had their article “Comparison of two pain management strategies during chest tube removal: Relaxation exercise with opiods and and opiods alone,” accepted for publication in Heart and Lung: The Journal of Acute and Critical Care.
2002
Wendy (Gantt) Maleki (M.S.) is the director of nursing for the vocational nursing program at Chaffey Community College in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Also, she coordinates the nursing assistant, home health aide, and, medical/surgical nursing assistant classes.
2003
Mary Beth (Witten) Kaylor (B.S.N.) is currently enrolled in the master of science to philosophy of doctorate in nursing program at The Ohio State University. She expects to complete her studies within the next year.
Karen J. Vonderhaar (M.S.) and Jan Belcher, associate professor, had their article “Web-delivered research-based nursing staff education for seeking magnet status” published in September 2005 Journal of Nursing Administration.
2004
Marianne Haugh (B.S.N) who uses a wheelchair due to spina bifida, is a staff nurse on the pediatric unit at the Chicago Rehabilitation Institute. She was honored as Nurse of the Month in the ExceptionalNurse.com September 2005 newsletter.
Angela Kinmann (B.S.N.) was accepted into the prestigious Duke University Nurse Anesthesia Program effective January 2006.
2005
Karen Beth Clark (M.S.) displayed a poster at the 30th Annual Midwest Nursing Research Society Conference held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 31-April 3, 2006.
Her poster was titled Gender differences in quality of life among patients with New York Heart Associate Class II, III, and IV systolic heart failure.
Rachel Blurton (B.S.N.), a staff nurse on the Critical Care Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital, was selected as one of the winners of the Dayton Daily New/Springfield News Sun’s “A Salute to Nurses” award for local nurses who provide excellence in nursing and patient care. Rachel was one of only eight nurses to be selected for this award.
