DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Joseph Kung\, University of North Texas\nTitle: Mo
ments of parking functions\, Abel interpolation\, and the number of trees
and connected graphs\nDate: September 6\, 2013\nMeet-and-Greet: 2:30 p.m.
in Room 222 MM\nTalk: 3:00 p.m. in Room 224 MM\nHost: Dr. Xiangqian Zhou\n
\nABSTRACT: We will explore the connection between factorial moments of pa
rking functions and the number of labeled trees and connected graphs on n
vertices and n+k edges. A tool in effecting this connection is Abel inter
polation and Abel polynomials.\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER: Dr. Kung is a profess
or of mathematics at University of North Texas. He attained his Ph.D at M
IT in 1978 under his advisor\, Dr. Gian-Carlo Rota His areas of research
include combinatorics\, matroid theory\, lattice theory\, classical invari
ant theory\, arrangements of hyperplanes\, etc. His research had been sup
ported by NSF and NSA.\n\nFurther information about the weekly Math & Stat
istics Colloquia can be found at the Department website.
