Wright State student Dylan Borchers placed second in the nation out of more than 3,800 cadets from 273 universities in the Army ROTC National Order of Merit evaluations. Cadets were rated in such categories as academics, leadership and physical fitness. Following graduation, Borchers will begin an active duty tour with the Army as a military intelligence officer.

Six Lake Campus students won first place awards during the statewide competition sponsored by the Business Professionals of America (BPA). The two-day event included contests in administrative support, human resources, marketing, management and other tests of business skills.

For the 28th consecutive year, Wright State's National Model United Nations team continued its tradition of bringing home top honors from the National Model UN Conference in New York City. Representing Japan, Wright State won awards for Outstanding Position Paper and Outstanding Delegation.

Roger Fecher, a biological sciences major, was one of 317 students selected from a field of 1,100 students from across the nation as a Goldwater Scholar for the 2007-2008 academic year. The scholarship program honoring Senator Barry Goldwater encourages outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. The Goldwater Scholarship is the premier undergraduate award of its type in these fields.

For the fifth consecutive year, Wright State students placed in the top three in the nationwide case competition sponsored by the Society for the Advancement of Management. Against 44 teams, Wright State's graduate team finished first in the open division while the undergraduate team finished second in their division. Students recommended marketing, corporate, and international strategies to Arm & Hammer baking soda. They were judged on their analysis, decision-making, communication skills, and professionalism.

Wright State alumna TyKiah Wright, executive director and founder of WrightChoice, Inc. in Columbus, is one of two national winners of the Paul G. Hearne Leadership Award from the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD). The award recognizes emerging leaders in the disability movement. WrightChoice helps high school and college students with disabilities strengthen their career development skills and find jobs and internships.

Wright State's innovative First-Year Experience program is one of 13 such programs in the nation selected for the Foundations of Excellence in the First College Year project. The University College has served approximately 13,000 new Wright State students since its creation in 1999. Since then, the first-year retention rate has increased from 67 percent to 73 percent.

Wright State is a leader in the number of graduates who live and work in Ohio, contributing to the growth of the state’s economy. Fully two-thirds of its more than 75,000 graduates live in Ohio, with nearly half staying in the Miami Valley.
