WRIGHT STATE RESIDENCE HALLS CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET

Wright State University students living in student residence areas can now send and receive e-mail, browse the Internet, and much more, all without leaving their rooms or tieing up their telephone lines. The university has completed its connection of student residence areas to Wright State's campus network and the Internet. Students will be able to connect their personal computers during 'Wired Week," scheduled for January 5-9.

"Wired Week" coincides with the first week of classes of Winter Quarter at Wright State. Students will be able to get their computers configured to plug into the network. Vendors such as Apple, Bell Industries and Comp USA will participate in a Student Computer Fest. They'll be offering special student discounts on computers, printers, software and other accessories. Short training sessions will be available to assist students in learning more about Netscape, Unix, e-mail and Libnet.

More and more freshmen are coming to college with computers in tow. Though Wright State does not require students to own a computer, the university does recommend certain computer types and configurations for connection in the residence halls. The university supports MS-Windows 3.1, MS-Windows 95 or MacOS based computers. Students using other operating systems may contact Computing and Telecommunications Services (CaTS) for more information. Students also need a CaTS Unix account before using their network connection to visit off-campus web sites.

"Wired Week" events will be held January 5-9 in the Student Union Multipurpose Room on the Wright State campus. For more information, contact the CaTS help desk at 775-4827, or visit the Resident Connect Web Page at www.cats.wright.edu/catsweb/residence
