JEFFREY VERNOOY NAMED DIRECTOR OF
DISABILITY SERVICES AT WRIGHT STATE

vernooy_sm.gif - 21361 BytesWright State University has named Jeffrey A. Vernooy director of the Office of Disability Services. In his position, Vernooy is responsible for the overall management of the Office of Disability Services. Disability Services provides assistance and support services that promote full participation and equal educational opportunities for students with disabilities. Services include counseling on various disability-related issues, academic aids, test proctoring, career planning, job seeking skills training, personal attendant care, cafeteria assistance, adapted transportation and parking, and adapted athletic and recreational programs. The office develops services to give students with disabilities access to all university programs, activities, and facilities, and to enhance their independence in daily living.

While at Wright State, Vernooy has held several positions in the Office of Disability Services, including associate director, assistant director and career counselor. Before coming to Wright State, he was vice president and general manager of Ben Franklin Driving Schools, Inc. Vernooy earned a B.A. degree from St. Andrews Presbyterian College, and an M.S. degree from Southern Illinois University.

Vernooy has been inducted into the Developmental Disabilities Hall of Fame. He has chaired or been a member of several community organizations, including the Miami Valley Regional Transit Project Mobility Advisory Committee; the accessibility committee of the Dayton Folk Festival; the Disability Trust Fund; the Franciscan Rehabilitation Unit advisory committee; and the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Minority Outreach Committee.
