WRIGHT STATE RADIO COMMERCIAL
WINS SILVER MICROPHONE AWARD
Wright State University has been named a National Winner in the Fourteenth Annual Silver
Microphone Award competition. The competition is designed to select the best local and
regional radio commercials created by advertising agencies, production companies and
radio stations across the United States.
Wright State's radio ad -- "Trapped" -- won in the category for institutions, professional organizations and utility companies. The commercial is currently airing on several local radio stations.
The spot was written and directed by Ulysses Drinks and Robin Suits, staff members in the WSU Office of Marketing and Communications, and Jeffrey Hedquist, of Hedquist Productions in Fairfield, Iowa. Vocal talent was provided by Elaine Bankston and Andrew MacKenzie. Hedquist Productions produced the ad.
The 1998 Silver Microphone competition was open to more than 40,000 ad agencies, production studios and radio stations. Entries in 29 categories were judged for creativity, production quality, copywriting, talent and overall effectiveness.
A panel of judges representing all aspects of the broadcast industry rated each entry. Four National Finalists were named in each category and then entered in a second round of judging to select the National Winners. Companies of all sizes and from each state were represented in the competition.
