WSU'S PACE PARTICIPATES IN
JOB SHADOWING PROGRAM

On Aug. 12, Wright State University's Partners in Academic and Career Exploration (PACE) participated with the Fair River Oaks Council Priority Board (FROC) in a job shadowing program for pre-selected middle and high school students from the Dayton area. The program is sponsored by the Ohio School-to-Work Region 4 and the Office of Pre-College programs at Wright State.

Job shadowing gives students the opportunity to spend a day with a mentor in a field of their interest, allowing and encouraging them to participate in on-the-job activities. To better understand what a certain career entails, students are introduced to the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed on the job.

"FROC has been given leverage to work within their community to select students who best benefit from participating in PACE," says Brenda Dewberry, director of pre-college programs at Wright State. Students are selected by their own schools and then, in turn, are selected by FROC to come to Wright State and participate in PACE's job shadowing program.

Cindy Leadingham, senior design coordinator for the Office of Communications and Marketing at Wright State, participated as a mentor in May's job shadowing program and will again participate in August. "I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with my student," she says. "It was rewarding for me to be able to acquaint a younger person to the field of publications design at a university."
