WRIGHT STATE TAKES HONORS AT
MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE
The Wright State University National Model United Nations (NMUN) Team returned from competition victorious once more. For the 20th year, WSU students were honored as a Distinguished Delegation, ranking them in the top 10 percent of delegations from among the 194 participating colleges and universities at this international conference. More than 13 different countries and 2,000 students attended the competition.
Thirty-seven WSU students, along with faculty advisor Donna M. Schlagheck, professor of political science, attended the conference to represent the United Nations delegation from the United Kingdom in a simulation that emulates the actual United Nations. "The NMUN is an excellent opportunity for college students to come together and discuss important issues facing the international community," said Michael Eaton, Secretary-General for the 1998 NMUN. "As the most accurate simulation of the United Nations, the NMUN also gives students a sense of the obstacles that diplomats face when addressing international crises."
The Model United Nations Conference is the largest and most prestigious conference of its kind. Delegates spend approximately six months researching and preparing to represent their assigned member nation in a five-day simulation of the United Nations. The New York City location provides staff and delegates with the opportunity to hold sessions at United Nations Headquarters and secure a wide range of expert speakers from the international Community.
