WRIGHT STATE RECEIVES $1 MILLION
GIFT FROM THE MEAD CORPORATION

Gifts totaling $1 million from The Mead Corporation Foundation will help Wright State University endow a chair in environmental sciences in the College of Science and Mathematics, and expand its MBA program in the College of Business and Administration.

"This generous gift will enable us to renovate our facility for producing MBA's, tailored to executives in the evenings and on weekends, and will help attract a scholarly chair in environmental sciences for our already established center of excellence," said Kim Goldenberg, M.D., Wright State University president.

As part of its gift, Mead will help endow a chair of environmental sciences. WSU's environmental sciences program is one of 24 accredited programs in the United States. It has received national research and service grant awards that address public education and assess water and wildlife quality.

"An endowed chair will help Wright State attract a world-renowned scholar with research, teaching and community service interests in the environmental sciences," said Roger Gilpin, Ph.D., dean of the College of Science and Mathematics. "Teaming with Wright State will show the Mead Corporation's continued commitment to promoting environmental quality through a recognized program of excellence."

Mead's gift will also help renovate Rike Hall, which houses the College of Business and Administration. New Internet-connected classrooms will serve the Executive MBA program, other MBA classes and professional development certificate programs. Additional classroom space will offer space for group presentation preparation and other small group and team-based learning activities.

"We are proud to have The Mead Corporation as a development partner," said Rishi Kumar, Ph.D., dean of the College of Business and Administration. "Mead's support will serve as a catalyst for the development of state-of-the-art classrooms equipped with the technology necessary to provide high quality graduate and executive business education and professional development programs. Moreover, this partnership strengthens our linkage with Mead, a corporation of tremendous prominence both locally and globally."

As Wright State expands its distance learning capabilities, the new classrooms will also be the home for Internet courses offered by the college. Using the World Wide Web and 'streaming video' technology, students can watch a lecture, see lecture notes and slides and communicate with the instructor in real time while sitting at their computer. By using electronic conferencing and group productivity software, the college can also offer its MBA program to multiple off-campus locations.

Headquartered in Dayton, The Mead Corporation is a paper and forest products company with more than 14,000 employees and offices and operations in 30 countries. The company is one of the leading North American producers of coated paper, coated board, and school and office supplies.
