LEROY RECEIVES WRIGHT STATE
OUTSTANDING ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Gary L. LeRoy, M.D., has been awarded the Wright State University Alumni Association's 1998 Outstanding
Alumni Achievement Award.
LeRoy, a 1988 graduate of the Wright State University School of Medicine, serves as assistant professor of family medicine at Wright State and medical director of the East Dayton Health Center, a community health center that is pioneering new approaches to providing health care for under-served people. LeRoy was recently named one of the 50 most positive doctors throughout the United States by the Positive Medicine Project, a national initiative based in Philadelphia.
"Dr. LeRoy has distinguished himself among his peers in community service, clinical practice and academic contributions, in both undergraduate and graduate medical education in this community," said Dr. Mark Clasen, chair of the WSU Department of Family Medicine. "He has been an inspiration to his fellow faculty members just as he inspires members in his community."
"My satisfaction in doing what I do is knowing that I've made a difference in some small way in someone's life," said LeRoy. "Maybe I've helped the healing process for a patient. Maybe it's just putting a hand on the shoulder and consoling someone. Maybe just being a practicing minority physician has been a positive influence for some of the young people in the neighborhood."
The Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award is given annually to a Wright State graduate who has attained a significant level of achievement in his or her field, has demonstrated a positive impact at a local, state or national level and possesses the highest standards of integrity and character.
