September 29, 1999 WSU PRESIDENT NAMES JERALD KAY "His personal characteristics as an educator mark him as truly exceptional," said David Bienenfeld, M.D., professor of psychiatry and director of the department's Residency Training Program. "At the levels of temperament, ethics, intellect, emotion and skill, Jerry is as good as one can get. He is a remarkable human being with prodigious talent, who is both loved and respected by the many students and residents who have passed under his auspices." A psychological interpretation of the Bacchae by the poet Euripedes is among the 18 articles, seven book chapters, two letters, one book review and six books Kay has had published in the last three years. In 1997, he co-authored a two-volume text on psychiatry, which was lauded in a New England Journal of Medicine review as the best in its field. "This is an extraordinary level of productive scholarship from anyone, let alone a departmental chair with multiple administrative, teaching and patient care responsibilities," said Daniel T. Organisciak, Ph.D., chair and professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, and chair of the School of Medicine's faculty development committee. "I feel like I've died and gone to heaven since coming to Wright State," says Kay. "The model of this School of Medicine allows me to do so many things without the preoccupations typical at many other medical schools. Novelty is what makes my life go round, and Wright State is constantly providing me so many new opportunities."
