Wright State University Wins Hud Grant for Neighborhood Revitalization. Revitalization of four Dayton inner core neighborhoods will be the focus of a $399,963 grant to Wright State University from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Wright State is one of only 18 universities nationwide, and the only university in Ohio, to receive one of the HUD grants. (9/23/98)
Wright State University Names Herbert Dregalla Chair of Music Department. Dr. Herbert E. Dregalla, Jr., formerly professor of music and director of bands at Nebraska Wesleyan University, has been named professor and chair of the Wright State University Department of Music. Dregalla replaces Dr. Sharon Nelson who has been appointed interim associate dean of the WSU College of Liberal Arts. (9/21/98)
Wright State to Offer New International Business Major. The curriculum for the new major will require applied foreign language skills in Spanish, French or German and an internship in international trade management. It also combines courses in culture and international business. (9/18/98)
WSU President Presents Faculty Awards, Honors Faculty Recognized by WSU Trustees. Eight faculty members were honored by WSU President Kim Goldenberg at a convocation held Sept. 16 to mark the beginning of the 1998-99 academic year. (9/18/98)
Wright State to Offer New Class on Internet Marketing. The new course developed by the WSU Department of
Marketing offers theoretical instruction in the still-new field of Internet marketing and gives students hands-on experience designing web pages for local businesses and organizations. (9/14/98)
Wright State University Welcomes Larger Freshman Class for 1998-99. This year's class of about 2,221 freshmen compares with 2,024 in the freshman class that enrolled in September 1997. The city of Dayton still provides the largest number of freshmen at 174. (9/14/98)
The Wolf Is on the Prowl: New Wright State Logo Pays for Scholarships. Since the new WSU Raider wolf was unveiled last October, the Wright State University athletic mascot has generated a 22 percent increase in royalty revenue over the past fiscal year. As a result, approximately $15,000 in student scholarships provided by the trademark licensing program will be distributed this year. (9/10/98)
Road Construction at Wright State Could Affect Back-to-School Traffic. Commuters may find getting onto the WSU campus especially difficult this fall because the North Fairfield Road/Col. Glenn Highway intersection in front of the Nutter Center will be under construction. This heavily traveled intersection handles most of the traffic coming to Wright State from Beavercreek along with the traffic coming from both the north and the south on I-675. (9/9/98)
Susan Smith Appointed WSU Director of Alumni Relations. Susan Smith, a 17-year WSU employee who most recently served as director of annual giving, has been appointed director of alumni relations. Her responsibilities include keeping alumni actively involved in the university community as well as working closely with the WSU Alumni Association. (9/3/98)
WSU Violence Prevention Program Expands to Teens in 14 States. One of only two federally funded programs to address youth violence, WSU's PACT program has expanded to rural hamlets as well as urban areas in 14 states. Originally designed to teach violence prevention to at-risk African-American youth in an inner-city, Dayton, Ohio, high school, the program now encompasses all racial and ethnic groups at every economic level. Wright State Marketing Students Help U.S. Air Force Museum. About 200 students and faculty at WSU are involved in a project to study the operations, pricing strategies and promotional activities of the Air Force Museum. The project began this past March, and will continue through November, when several groups of WSU marketing students will present a proposed marketing plan to museum officials. (8/20/98)
Wright State Begins New Course Sequence for First-year Engineering and Computer Science Students. Students enrolled in "Introduction to the Art of Engineering" will conduct real, virtual and remote experiments; create and study computer simulations; develop skills in the use of generic software packages; and practice the art of engineering design, all in the freshman year. Simone Polk Named Director of Public Safety at Wright State. Polk, who has been interim director of Public Safety for the past six months, has been named director. She comes to Wright State from Cleveland State University where she had been a law enforcement officer for 16 years. (8/19/98)

Wright State Offers Electronic Access to Student Resumes. Prospective employers from around the world can review the resumes of hundreds of Wright State University alumni and student job-seekers and screen out all but the most qualified without ever having to advertise a position opening, internship or co-op job, thanks to a free web site developed by the WSU Office of Career Services. WSU'S PACE Participates in Job Shadowing Program. Wright State University's Partners in Academic and Career Exploration (PACE) participated with the Fair River Oaks Council Priority Board in a job shadowing program for pre-selected middle and high school students from the Dayton area in August. The program is sponsored by the Ohio School-to-Work Region 4 and the WSU Office of Pre-College Programs. (8/14/98)
Vivienne Himmell Receives WSU Distinguished Social Work Alumnus Award.Vivienne Himmell has received the 1998 WSU Distinguished Social Work Alumnus Award. The award recognizes a WSU graduate for dedicated and pro-active service to the social work field. (8/4/98)
Wright State Radio Commercial Wins Silver Microphone Award. A radio spot written and directed by WSU staff members Ulysses Drinks and Robin Suits has been named a National Winner in the Fourteenth Annual Silver Microphone Award competition. The competition is designed to select the best local and regional radio commercials created by advertising agencies, production companies and radio stations across the United States. (8/1/98)
Wright State to Offer New Master of Accountancy Degree. Wright State will offer a new master of accountancy (M.Acc.) degree program beginning this fall. The program will satisfy a new Ohio law governing procedures for becoming a certified public accountant (CPA) as well as the requirements of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Wright State University Announces Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program. The Wright State University-Miami Valley College of Nursing and Health will begin offering a master's level Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) program for licensed registered nurses this fall. The program enables graduates to assume primary care responsibility for direct care of medically vulnerable patients in a variety of health care settings. (7/7/98)
