WRIGHT STATE RAISES THE ROOF
ON TWO NEW RESIDENCE HALLS
Wright State University will be raising the roof on two new residence halls next week. Construction began last Monday on phase three of College Park apartments. Cranes will be used to construct the new modular three-story apartment buildings, which will go from the ground up in about ten days.
Both buildings will have 15 apartments designated for upper-class students. College Park offers the most popular housing on campus and all of the 116 spaces in the new building were assigned the day the lottery was held for them. Each apartment is a four-bedroom, two-bath suite, with its own washer and dryer. And like all on-campus housing at Wright State, each bedroom has a hook-up to the campus computer network.
Since 1971, when Wright State opened its first residence hall for 324 students, more and more students are indicating a desire to live on campus. Wright State expects more than 2,300 resident students this fall. Since the last time the university opened a new residence hall in 1996, enrollment of out-of-state students has more than doubled, from 346 in the fall of ’96 to 839 in the fall of ’98.
Local students can come to Wright State and get the experience of being away from home, too. Living in the residence halls allows them better access to all the activities the university offers and a better sense of being a part of the student community. And students who live on-campus have consistently higher grade point averages than those who don’t.
