WRIGHT STATE PROFESSOR HONORED
FOR NURSING LEADERSHIP
Carol Holdcraft, DNS, RN, is this year's recipient of the Leadership Award from the Zeta Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. An assistant professor of nursing in Wright State University's College of Nursing and Health, Holdcraft was recognized for her leadership in creating an environment that enhances the image of nursing.
As recording secretary for the Zeta Phi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International for the past four years, "Carol encouraged the chapter to strive for higher and more meaningful activities that benefit the university, chapter and community as a whole," said Beth Anderson, MS, RN, last year's leadership award recipient, as she presented the award at the chapter induction ceremony in May. Holdcraft has held a number of positions within the chapter, including faculty counselor and nominating committee, and actively promotes nursing research on a local and national level.
Sigma Theta Tau International is committed to fostering excellence, scholarship and leadership in nursing to improve health care worldwide. Founded in 1922, the society has more than 260,000 members active in 76 countries, with chapters at more than 400 college and university schools of nursing worldwide. Sixty percent of its members hold master's and/or doctoral degrees. The Zeta Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International was chartered in 1983 and currently has 720 members.
A faculty member at Wright State University since 1979, Holdcraft received her doctor of nursing science degree from Indiana University in 1998. She received her BSN and master's in psychiatric/mental health nursing from the University of Cincinnati.
