VIVIENNE HIMMELL RECEIVES
WSU DISTINGUISHED SOCIAL WORK ALUMNUS AWARD
Vivienne Himmell, Wright State University social work alumna, has received the 1998 WSU Distinguished Social Work Alumnus Award. The award recognizes a WSU graduate for dedicated and pro-active service to the social work field.
Himmell earned both her B.A. in social work and her M.A. in counseling and mental health at Wright State University. Upon graduation, she went to work for the Montgomery County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, where she began as homemaker coordinator, eventually moving up to intake coordinator. For 25 years, she has been a clinical social worker well-known throughout the community as an advocate for those with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
She has mentored many students at Wright State and has served in various community organizations including the Professional Association for Retardation and the Miami Valley Counseling Association. She also recently received the Harold F. Hilty Award from United Cerebal Palsy Rehabilitation Services and the Erin Ritchey Award from Brighter Tomorrow Foundation.
The WSU Distinguished Social Work Alumnus Award is given annually at the Social Work Senior Banquet to an outstanding alumnus who exemplifies dedication, hard work and excellence. Winners of the award are nominated by faculty.
