WRIGHT STATE RECEIVES CDC FUNDING
TO RESEARCH YOUTH RISK BEHAVIORS
A local project between Wright State University and the Dayton Public Schools is one
of ten programs nationwide that is being funded by the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention in an effort to reduce high-risk behaviors among youth. The
American Nurses Foundation in Washington, D.C. is coordinating a number of local
and regional initiatives to address this issue.
On Thursday, Jan. 22, Wright State will host an informational meeting focusing on the American Nurses Foundation's campaign to reduce adolescent high risk behaviors, which place them at an increased risk of disease. Representatives from the American Nurses Association, the WSU College of Nursing and Health, the Center for Healthy Communities, Dayton Public Schools, the National Conference of State Legislatures, the AIDS Foundation of the Miami Valley, the Ohio Nurses Association, and other organizations are expected to attend.
The meeting will focus on "helping to reduce high risk in children and youth," said Jane C. Swart, dean of the Wright State University College of Nursing and Health. The locally-funded project between Wright State and the Dayton Public Schools seeks to provide HIV prevention education to school age children.
