INSTITUTE FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

Patricia Martin, Ph.D., has been accepted to the Harvard Institute for Higher Education Management Development Program. Martin is the interim dean and an associate professor in the Wright State University-Miami Valley College of Nursing and Health.

Martin's assocation with Wright State University began in 1980, when she received a master's degree in nursing. Prior to earning her doctorate from Case Western Reserve University, Martin served in several nursing positions in hospitals as far as Arlington, Va., including almost 21 years at Miami Valley Hospital. She began teaching at Wright State in 1984 as an adjunct faculty member. In 1992 she became a full-time faculty member and director of nursing research at Wright State.

A noted scholar in nursing research, Martin has received four awards for excellence in research and outstanding service. She has authored more than 100 articles and presentations on issues in statistics, research and nursing administration, as well as her own research on pre-term infants. She serves on numerous professional, community and academic committees at local, state and national levels.

The Harvard Institute is a developmental experience for administrators in higher education who demonstrate forward-thinking leadership. The program increases participants' knowledge in diversity, legal issues, planning, politics, management and fostering innovation. Participants share insights and ideas with other talented administrators, strengthening their leadership capacities to effectively guide their institutions throughout their careers.

Martin competed with more than 200 applicants from around the country, and is Wright State's third administrator to participate in the program. The institute will be held on June 20 through July 2 at Harvard University's campus in Cambridge, Mass.
