WRIGHT STATE STUDENTS IMPORT AND
EXPORT PRODUCTS FROM CHILE
Wright State University's Wright Trading Company, a Junior Achievement Globe Company,
recently ended a five-month exercise trading products with students from Temuco, Chile.
The Wright Trading Company is a student-managed joint-venture business in partnership with Chilean students from the University of the Frontier (Universidad de la Frontera) in Temuco, Chile. The students learn the business of international trade by selling stock to capitalize their business, electing officers, deciding with their Chilean partners which products to import and export, negotiating prices and advertising products. At the end of the project, students also liquidate their company by preparing profit and loss statements and balance sheets, decide on a dividend return to their stockholders and publish and distribute an annual report.
The students imported exotic, handmade wooden flowers made by the indigenous Mapuchoo Indians for resale into the community. Wright Trading Company sold $1,500 dollars worth of the flowers to local businesses, family and friends.
Corporate sponsors for this project include Emery Worldwide and National City Bank.
