FOUR WRIGHT STATE PROFESSORS
HONORED FOR EXCELLENCE
Four Wright State University professors have been honored with awards of excellence from
the WSU College of Engineering and Computer Science.
Philip Chen, Ph.D., associate professor of computer science and engineering, has received the 1996-97 Excellence in Research Award. Chen, who joined Wright State in 1989, has not only earned the respect of his colleagues and students, but has developed a significant funded research program with a national reputation. He has also been responsible for securing more than $500,000 in sustained research funding, which has supported numerous graduate and undergraduate students.
Lang Hong, Ph.D., associate professor of electrical engineering, has also received the 1996-97 Excellence in Research Award. Hong's research has drawn international recognition to himself and to Wright State as a quality research institution. He is responsible for more than $750,000 in research funding and has sponsored several new graduate courses in the college as well as shortened summer courses designed to meet the needs of technical specialists in industry.
Mateen Rizki, Ph.D., associate professor of computer science and engineering, has received the 1996-97 Excellence in Teaching Award. Rizki, who believes teaching should be an interactive process, creates a sense of excitement and eagerness in the classroom by avoiding lectures and using the latest technology to teach difficult topics and concepts in digital computing.
Marian Kazimierczuk, Ph.D., professor of electrical engineering, has received the 1996- 97 Excellence in Professional Service Award. Kazimierczuk has served on 20 committees during this past year -- eight at the university level and six for the department and the college. He has also been instrumental in the development of the new engineering doctoral program and has received numerous honors and awards for his generosity and professional dedication.
