WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY'S MEDIA
BLITZ CONTEST WAS A SUCCESS
Wright State University has announced the winners of the Media Blitz Contest following the judging on Saturday, May 16, at the WSU Student Union.
Ninety-three teenagers submitted entries for the contest designed to promote the importance of teen pregnancy prevention. To enter the contest Greene County teens, between the ages of 13 and 19, were required to produce video, music, written expression and two-dimensional art messages that promote teen pregnancy prevention.
Sarah Silver, of Fairborn, placed first in the music category. Kimberly Edlund, of Cedarville, was the top entry in the written expression entry. Hillary Sletten, of Beavercreek, was the first place winner of the two-dimensional art category. Sletten, along with Amy Sims, Jessica Browning and Shenna Wallace, of Beavercreek, also placed first in the video category.
Six entries in each of the four media categories received cash prizes ranging from $10 to $300. In addition to the cash prizes, the first place entries will be used in various media outlets in the Dayton area. The first place written expression entry will appear in the Fairborn Daily Herald, Beavercreek News-Current, Centerville-Bellbrook Times, Xenia Daily Gazette and Yellow Springs News. The first place two-dimensional entry will be used as a Lamar Outdoor Advertising billboard on US Route 35 near Woodman Drive. The first place music entry will be used as a public service announcement on Z-93 and the first place video entry will appear as a public service announcement on WRGT-TV, Fox 45.
Judges for the event included Robert Hutcheson, Greene County Juvenile Court Judge; Lennard Moses, professor of music at Central State University; Thomas Macaulay, professor of art at Wright State; Barbara Johnson, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base employee and published author; Brady Jones IV, theatre major at Wright State; Allison Jackson, music major at Wright State; Michael Munro, nursing student at Wright State and Angela Hickok, English major at Ohio Wesleyan University.
The Media Blitz Contest was funded by a Wellness Block Grant through the Greene County Family and Children First Council.
