WRIGHT STATE TO OFFER MANAGEMENT
TRAINING CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

In the current tight labor market, Miami Valley manufacturers say they need trained supervisors with up-to-date management and leadership skills. With the cooperation of an advisory board of representatives from several area companies, Wright State University's Center for Professional Development has developed two certificate programs beginning in September for those in management, supervisory and leadership roles.

The Certificate Program in Manufacturing Supervision is an intensive, 10-session program that develops the management skills critical for today's front-line supervisors in the manufacturing industry. Topics covered include effective leadership and communication skills; training, coaching and motivating employees; dealing with difficult employees and situations; the "team" approach to manufacturing supervision and more. The program is designed for new supervisors with little or no formal training in supervisory skills, experienced supervisors seeking to increase their skills, team leaders, project managers and candidates for job promotion into supervisory positions.

To accommodate various work shifts, the Certificate Program in Manufacturing Supervision will be offered in both day and evening sessions. The evening session will begin Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m., and continue each Tuesday evening through Nov. 16. The day program begins Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and continues on the following Wednesdays: Sept. 22, Oct. 13, Oct. 20 and Nov. 10.

Another certificate program, Innovative Leadership for Today's Managers, is an intensive 13-week program designed to develop and enhance leadership skills, techniques and strategies. Topics covered include the best leadership practices; coaching for performance; motivation and recognition; mediating conflict and more. The program is designed for leaders planning to lead organizational change; managers and leaders who need a solid foundation in leadership or who are looking to advance their careers; and those moving into management positions who need more management strategies and effective leadership skills.

Innovative Leadership for Today's Managers will be offered on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., beginning Sept. 1, and continuing through Dec. 8. There will be no class Wednesday, Nov. 24.

Both certificate programs will be held the Kettering Center, 140 E. Monument Ave., in Dayton. For more information or to register, contact Alan Yeck, program developer for the Center for Professional Development, at (937) 775-1100.
