SHARON NELSON CHOSEN TO PARTICIPATE IN
BRYN MAWR SUMMER INSTITUTE FOR WOMEN

Sharon Nelson, Ph.D., interim chair and professor of music at Wright State University, has been selected by Bryn Mawr College to participate in its Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education, which runs from June 28 to July 24.

Designed to improve the status of women at the middle and executive levels of higher education administration, the Bryn Mawr institute features instructional units on higher education's academic, external and institutional environments as well as professional development. Bryn Mawr chooses participants for the five-week institute from those nominated by their universities. Nelson was the only candidate nominated by the Wright State selection committee. She is the eighth administrator from WSU to attend the institute.

Nelson has been associated with the WSU music department since 1975. She earned a master of music education from Wright State in 1981, was appointed assistant professor of music in 1988 and was named interim chair of the department in 1997. Last year, she received the WSU Department of Music Distinguished Alumni Award for significant contributions to her profession. She has served on the executive board of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) and served as editor of the OMEA journal, TRIAD.
