WSU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE RECEIVES GIFT FOR
NEW DIVISION OF HEALTH SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

A major gift to the Wright State University School of Medicine will endow a chair in Health Systems Management, a new division to be created within the Department of Community Health. The chair will bear the name of Oscar Boonshoft, a retired project engineer from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Boonshoft wants to stimulate the development of health policy and systems that would simplify the process and delivery of health care. He would like to develop efficient, readily available health care for all of the population.

"This endowment will promote concepts and policies that would provide health care in a more effective and cost efficient manner," said Kim Goldenberg, M.D., Wright State University president. "It will also provide critical knowledge to those establishing policies, including congressional leaders and decision makers at universities, hospitals, medical schools and other components of the health care industry."

"This extraordinary gift provides another link between school resources and community needs," added Howard Part, M.D., dean of the School of Medicine. "The new division will be a collaborative center charged with educating future physicians, researching regional health care issues and enhancing patient care."

The Wright State University School of Medicine has received national recognition for its creative community partnerships. The Association of American Medical Colleges awarded the school the prestigious Outstanding Community Service Award in 1997. Wright State is the youngest medical school and the only one in the Midwest to win this awa
