Identity Marked by New Logo by Barry O. Johnson On September 11, Wright State University unveiled its new logo and word mark. Faculty, staff, students and the local community were welcomed to campus with banners along Col. Glenn Highway and University Boulevard and a new sign at the main entrance. The new logo and word mark complete a 19-month process, led by the University Marks Committee, that included the introduction of a new athletic logo one year ago. In February 1997, the University Marks Committee was asked to reaffirm the university's official colors and to recommend new logos for athletics and for the university. The committee prepared an RFP and three companies submitted proposals. New York-based Sean Michael Edwards (SME) Design was selected to work with the committee on this project. After reaffirming the official colors - hunter green and gold - the committee agreed that the development of an athletic logo for the 1997 basketball season was crucial. The process took more than five months to complete. The new athletic logo was unveiled at the Ervin J. Nutter Center in October. The development process for the university logo and word mark began in November. The committee reviewed SME's initial designs this past January. Committee members recommended a new logo and word mark that associated the university with the Wright brothers to the administration in March. The committee also recommended that the university reserve the seal for official and presidential use only. The approval process was delayed with the death of Dr. Flack. In April, President Kim Goldenberg asked the committee to include all of the major university governing bodies in the approval process. During the next six months, the recommended design was approved by the Board of Trustees, Faculty Senate, USAC, CSAC, the Alumni Association, and Student Government Association. President Goldenberg also shared the committee's recommendation with the Wright family. Provost Moore announced the availability of the new logo for stationery and business card use in late September. A full-color reproduction of the letterhead, envelope and business card appear here. Departments are encouraged to use all of their current stationery before ordering stationery with the new logo. Departments may place orders by contacting the Office of Printing Services at 775-2117.
