Wright State University -
A Family Friendly Place to Work

by Ken Selm
Wright State University offers its employees a wide range of benefit programs to meet the needs of faculty and staff and their busy lifestyles. As you may know, we offer medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, retirement plan contribution, tax sheltered annuities/custodial account plans and tuition remission to eligible employees. What you may not know is that we also offer other family friendly benefits such as:
  • Flexible spending accounts, where you can use pre-tax dollars to pay for medical, dental, vision care and dependent care costs.
  • Sick leave pay (with approval) for employees to take paid time off to care for a sick or injured member of their immediate family.
  • An employee assistance program (EAP) that provides employees and members of their households with short-term, problem-focused counseling services.
  • Long-term care insurance (paid for by the employee) that provides for skilled and custodial care received at home, in an adult day health center or nursing home.
  • Take-home meals that can be ordered from the university dining services saving employees time for family activities.
  • Educational/training programs for professional/career development.
  • An on-site child care center that also offers after school and snow day child care.

In 1996, WSU was named one of the Miami Valleyıs most family friendly places to work. It is easy to see why Wright State is becoming the employer of choice for families in the Miami Valley. If you are not currently taking advantage of these and/or other available benefits, call Becky Sommer at 775-2566 or Rich Johnson at 775-2567, and ask for more details.
