Card credited with savings The purchasing card program, begun last January and now fully implemented in the School of Medicine and the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Business and Administration, saves time and thousands of dollars for the university each month. The nearly 2,000 cards now in use across campus replace departmental purchase orders (DPOs) and travel prepayment request forms."By using the purchase card for the 2,600 transactions processed electronically in August," said Kevin Watson, accounts payable supervisor, who administers the program, "the program saves the university thousands of dollars by eliminating the paperwork, computer time and personal involvement necessary to produce checks for DPOs. Even the payment to the credit card company is done electronically." Available to every Wright State department, the purchasing card covers transactions of $1,000 or less and is essentially a VISA card with spending controls built in. Unlike DPOs, the purchasing card requires only one signature for all transactions each month. "The beauty of this card is that we can restrict the number of dollars that can be spent on it, so we can give the card to anyone," said Watson.
