Nelson appointed COLA's interim associate dean by Stephanie James Ely Sharon Nelson has been appointed interim associate dean for the College of Liberal Arts. She succeeds William Rickert who was named interim dean of the college last spring."Dr. Nelson brings her skills as an administrator as well as a knowledge of the arts," said Rickert. "As director of the Department of Music's graduate program, she worked predominately with music education majors and the College of Education and Human Services, so she understands the changes that are happening in the state. I'm very much looking forward to the background and skills that she brings to the college." An associate professor of music and interim chair of the Department of Music for the past year, Nelson participated in Bryn Mawr College's Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education this summer. She is also president elect of the Ohio Music Education Association, the second largest association of music educators in the United States. An Ohio native and Farmersville resident, Nelson earned a master of music education here in 1981, a doctorate in music education from the University of Cincinnati in 1988, was appointed assistant professor of music in 1988 and received the WSU Department of Music Distinguished Alumni Award last year. |
