JAMES UPHOFF NAMED PRESIDENT-ELECT
OF OHIO SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION

James Uphoff, Ed.D, Professor Emeritus in Education and associate director for faculty development in the Center for Teaching and Learning at Wright State University, was recently named president-elect of the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA). Uphoff will begin as president-elect in January, and become OSBA President in January 2001.

Founded in 1955, OSBA is a private, not-for-profit statewide organization of public school boards. Its mission is to unite Ohio's 611 boards of education and provide information, services and representation to its members. OSBA promotes public education and the role of school boards; provides training and workshops for board members and administrators; and assists school boards in solving management problems.

Uphoff has served on OSBA's executive committee, board of trustees, legislative action network and federal relations network. Previously, he was president of the 15-county Southwest OSBA region.

Uphoff has been a member of the Oakwood Board of Education since 1989. In 1997, he received Wright State's Presidential Award as Outstanding Faculty Member. Uphoff has authored numerous books and articles over a 33-year career at Wright State. In August he began a weekly radio commentary on education broadcast on WYSO-FM (91.3). The commentaries may be heard on Wednesdays at 6:35 and 8:35 a.m., and may be found on the WYSO Web site at www.wyso.org.
