2008 Tri-State Honor Band Conductor

We are pleased to announce the Ninth Annual Tri-State Honor Band Festival, sponsored and hosted by Wright State University Department of Music, January 24 - 26, 2008, and held on our campus in Dayton, Ohio. A remarkable musical event, this festival brings together superb high school musicians from across three states—Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana—to create one of the nation’s most exceptional high school honor bands!
The crowning achievement of the WSU Tri-State Honor Band has been its tradition of featuring a world-renowned guest conductor. We are pleased that with the appointment of Dr. Jack Stamp, Director of Bands from Indiana University of Pennsylvania as conductor of this year’s TSHB festival, this wonderful tradition lives on! An internationally-known composer and widely-respected and popular conductor, Dr. Stamp is Professor of Music and Director of Band Studies, and the founding conductor of the famed Keystone Wind Ensemble, a prolifically recorded professional wind band. Known for his extraordinary sense of humor, and inspirational concert performances, students performing under Dr. Stamp’s baton at this year’s TSHB are virtually guaranteed a musical experience that will be remembered for a lifetime!
All personnel for the Tri-State Honor Band are chosen from among audition tapes and/or CDs submitted by each student applicant.
Audition results will be announced in early December. Selected students will then be sent housing and registration information, along with a detailed schedule of all events, including rehearsals and the final concert. In addition, music will be sent to each chosen honor band student so that they can prepare thoroughly all music prior to the festival. All honor band rehearsals will be open to the public and, as always, directors are especially welcome and encouraged! As in the past, the 2008 WSU Tri-State Honor Band promises to be a truly unprecedented musical opportunity for all! Should you have other questions, please do not hesitate to let us know.
