Graduate
Teaching Assistantship
in Choral Conducting
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Twenty (20) hours per week service to the Department of Music in support of instruction, research, and public service.
- Assisting in administration and conducting of University choral ensembles.
- In addition, Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) may be assigned additional duties.
- Must be registered for a minimum of 8 graduate credit hours per quarter.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
GTAs receive an annual stipend of at least $7,000. In addition, they receive a tuition waiver for up to twelve (12) credits per quarter of either in-state or out-of-state tuition; this is equal to between $6,888 to $17,460 per year. QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelors Degree in Music
- Regular admission to the School of Graduate Studies is needed to become a GTA in the Department of Music. “Regular Admission” means that admission to the School of Graduate Studies cannot be provisional.
- Previous conducting experience is preferred, but not required.
DEGREES:
The Department of Music offers three (3) graduate level degrees:
- Master of Music in Music Education with thesis, projects, and recital options
- Master of Music in Performance
- Master of Humanities (Emphasis in Music)
APPLICATION AND DEADLINE:
To apply for the GTA position, the following materials must be sent to the Department of Music:
- A letter of application
- Three (3) letters of recommendation
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- The GTA Application Form*
Application materials must be received by the Department of Music no later than April 1 of the year to which the student is seeking Fall admission.

The Department of Music, within the College of Liberal Arts , has over forty faculty and is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The Department is housed in the Creative Arts Center , along with the Departments of Art & Art History and Theatre Arts.
