Dear private teachers and music educators,
The Wright State University Music Department is proud to host its second annual Summer String Camp for junior high and high school students. July 9-13, 2013. This event will showcase both the wealth of young performing talent and the outstanding teacher-artists in the Dayton area.
Students will gather for five days of coachings, performances, and new musical experiences, and will have an opportunity to perform in Wright State University's newly renovated Schuster Hall. This year we, are proud to invite an exceptional teaching staff that will include public school teacher Doug Eyink (Centerville High School), and guest artists Jim Braid (Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra), Colleen Braid (Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra) and Jane Katsuyama (DPO). In addition, Dr. Franklin Cox and other WSU faculty members will coach chamber music sessions.
A select group of students in strings will rehearse intensively with guest artists in daily sectionals/master classes, daily orchestral rehearsals, and daily chamber music rehearsals. Junior high school students and high school students will rehearse in separate orchestras and join into the Festival Orchestra for a final performance. All participants will participate in chamber music rehearsals and perform on the final concert.
From Tuesday through Friday, rehearsals will last from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and on Saturday rehearsals will last from 4:30 p.m. to 7 in preparation for the 8 p.m. concert.
Students will also be able to attend a variety of coaching sessions provided by the WSU faculty. An applied fee of $200, payable to the Wright State University Department of Music, will cover the costs of the camp. Music will be sent electronically or by mail by mid-June, and a recording of the final concert will be made available to all participants.
Please recommend to your outstanding students that they apply for this camp. The deadline for applications is Saturday, June 1, 2013.
