Derek Davis is a graduate student at Wright State University, and is the process of obtaining a Masters of Humanities with an emphasis in Music. His main focus is on music history and especially late nineteenth and twentieth century music. Derek is also a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Wright State, where he has responsibilities in music history, keeping recital attendance and teaching percussion methods.

Derek graduated in 2001 from Worthington Kilbourne High School in Columbus, Ohio. He learned percussion under Tomas Jarecki and Daniel Hostetler, from Dallas Brass. Derek received his Bachelor of Music History and Literature degree from Wright State University in fall 2005. His undergraduate research dealt with the music of Gustav Mahler. He was a recipient of an ArtsGala scholarship while at Wright State. Derek has been a member of the Percussive Arts Society since high school. While he was obtaining his undergraduate, Derek studied percussion under Dr. David Booth and Lucas Young. He also was in a wide range of ensembles, including: WSU Wind Symphony, WSU Symphonic Band, WSU Concert Band, WSU University/Community Orchestra, WSU Chamber Orchestra, WSU Opera Pit Orchestra, WSU University Chorus, the Westerville Community Orchestra, and WSU Percussion Ensemble. Derek has been part of tours that went to California in 1998 with the Worthington Kilbourne High School Wind Program, and Japan, in 2004 with the Wright State Wind Symphony. Derek also teaches the front ensemble of the Fairborn Marching Band.
