The University Chorus
Dr. Drew Collins, conductor
University Chorus is a non-auditioned vocal ensemble comprised of singers from across the campus community. Membership is open to all university students without audition, regardless of major. The longest running ensemble on campus, this group has enjoyed a strong tradition at WSU as an inclusive choral ensemble. The group performs a wide variety of choral music from many styles, periods and cultures. The University Chorus often joins forces with other instrumental and choral ensembles for presentations of masterworks. Since no audition is required, just register and come on the first day of the term as you would for any other class. Join at the beginning of any term, or sing all year. University Chorus rehearses from 1:30-2:35 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Do I have to be a music major to sing in University Chorus?
Everybody is welcome to sing in University Chorus, no matter what major you are (and even if you're undecided!).
Is there an audition for University Chorus?
No. Most of our choirs require an audition, but University Chorus does not. It is open-enrollment. So, all you need to do is register as you would for any other course, then show up on the first day of the term!
What kind of music does University Chorus sing?
We sing a wide variety of musical styles. In any given year, we might sing art music from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods; a Gospel, pop, or Broadway; folk songs from the United States and around the world; and much, much more!
Can I join anytime, or only in the Fall?
You can join an ensemble at the beginning of any term. So, if your schedule doesn't allow you to join in the Fall, you can still sing in Winter or Spring! When registering for classes, remember to keep the University Chorus time slot open!
What about credits?
In some ways, University Chorus is just like any other course on campus. Registration is required, you will receive a syllabus, and you get a credit for each term you take the class. Having trouble registering, or not sure you want to join? Just go ahead and show up to the first rehearsal and chat with the professor. Each ensemble is worth 1 credit hour each term. Students who need full-time status can perform in a campus ensemble to get their credit load up to 12. Bonus: Already at 18 credits?...You can participate in as many as 3 different ensembles each term without paying an overload fee!! (See your director for details.)
How late into the term can I register for University Chorus?
The add/drop schedule is the same for every course across campus. Check the webpage for the Registrar's Office to find out the last day to add University Chorus for this term.
How do I join?
Register as you would for any other course. The course number is "MUE 290". The section is "01".
I can't be in University Chorus this term. Is there another choir I can join?
Yes! We have seven choirs at Wright State. So, it's very likely that one of the other six will work for your schedule. An audition may be required, so contact the director of the particular chorus in which you are interested for more information about how to audition:
