Symphonic Band
The Wright State University Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Shelley Jagow, is a performing wind band ensemble open to all WSU students from a wide variety of major fields of study within the university. A seating audition is required for membership (Wind Symphony players are exempt from seating auditions). Auditions are held during the first week of class of each quarter. Contact Dr. Jagow to arrange for an informal audition time.
The band performs at minimum one concert each quarter with musical repertory ranging from stage and film scores to wind band classics and contemporary compositions. In addition, a one-day off-campus tour performance is often organized at a high school within the greater Dayton area.
Members will experience and actively participate in the music-making process, and grow as creative musicians with a thorough understanding of the course repertoire. Regardless of a player’s chosen degree program, the same high performing standards are expected from each member.
All performing members must be registered for Symphonic Band using the appropriate course number based on the following criteria:
- MUE 266 (Section 01) - for students who have participated in the band for 6 or less quarters
- MUE 466 (Section 01) - for students who have participated in the band for more than 6 quarters
