Margaret Erin

Margaret Erin studied viola da gamba with Patricia Olds at Wright State University graduating with a B.A. (music, magna cum laude). Later, she earned a Master of Humanities degree from Wright state and was the recipient of the Outstanding Humanities Graduate Student Award for 2002. Margaret directs, and plays recorder and viola da gamba with Win in the Woods Early Music Ensemble, a group she started in 1990. Margaret also directs a student early music ensemble at the University of Dayton, teaches recorder at her home studio and is proprietor of Manorhouse Music, a small business selling music for early instruments.
Margaret started playing the recorder as a child in England. She enjoys doing historical research and writing scripts for Wind in the Woods performances. Under Margaret’s leadership, Wind in the Woods has played extensively in the Dayton area and beyond, and has produced two CDs. The group performs regularly at WSU Madrigal dinner and has performed for the Department of Music.
Margaret serves on the Music Alumni Advisory Committee, is active in her church, likes to work in the garden, reads extensively, and is currently studying viola da gamba with Annalisa Pappano.
Margaret met her husband, Tim, when he was on a post-doctoral research fellowship at Southhampton University; at the time, she was the head nurse of a neurosurgical ward. Margaret came to the United States in 1971 and has been living in Dayton since 1976. Tim and Margaret have two children, Chris, 29, and Suzanne, 22.
