Wright State Graduate Competing in "Clash of the Choirs"
April Hilen is a self proclaimed “audition junkie.” To help feed her habit, the 2007 Wright State University Department of Music graduate is competing in “Team Cincinnati” on the NBC holiday program “Clash of the Choirs.”
“It’s so much fun to get up there and show your stuff and get critiques,” as Hilen, 23, was quoted in The Pulse-Journal, a Warren county paper. “It’s my art and my craft. I just love performing and this sounded like an amazing opportunity.” She began voice lessons at 7, received her bachelor of music in music education this year, and is teaching music at Glen Este Middle School in Cincinnati.
“It was great seeing April on national TV,” said Hank Dahlman, director of Choral Studies at Wright State. “Her talents as a performer and ambassador for the state of Ohio were as much a joy to watch today as they were when she was a music major here at Wright State.”
