Music

Major/Minor

The Bachelor of Arts in Music degree is offered with majors in performance, music education, and music history and literature. The bachelor of music is designed for students who wish to pursue a professional career in music. The Bachelor of Arts degree is offered with a major in music as well. The Bachelor of Arts is an appropriate choice for students who wish to study music, but do not necessarily plan a professional career in music.

  • In addition to being granted admission to the university, students wishing to pursue a degree in music must audition for admission into the Music Department. Details on the audition process can be obtained by contacting the Department of Music at (937) 775-2346.
  • Students who wish to teach music in Ohio schools should complete the Bachelor of Music in Music Education. Upon successful completion of this degree, students are eligible to apply for Ohio teaching licensure.
  • All students in the university, as well as members of the community, are eligible to participate in performing groups. Some groups require auditions while others are open to anyone who is interested.
  • The minor in music is composed of courses in music theory, history, and literature and performance.
  • A detailed four-year curriculum outline for each major is available from the Department of Music. Students interested in pursuing a degree in music are strongly encouraged to contact the Department of Music for additional information and degree requirement information.
