Middle Childhood Education

Major

Other than the family, perhaps no one has a greater impact on a child than a teacher. Middle childhood education focuses on the needs of early adolescents between nine and 14 years of age (grades 4-9). A thorough study of the nature, needs, and interests of early adolescent students is the focus of the program.

  • Pre-service educators enroll in content preparation for two of the following teaching fields: language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science.
  • The middle childhood education graduate program offers classes in early adolescent development, curriculum, pedagogy, evaluation, and assessment, leading to Ohio licensure in middle childhood education.
