Electrical Engineering

Major

Electrical engineering integrates materials, devices, components, and machines for design, manufacture, and use of electronic products and systems. As a result of rapid technological advances in electronics, the demand for competent electrical engineers is very strong. The electrical engineering major is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

  • Students desiring to complement electrical engineering skills with an increased emphasis on computer science may choose a minor in Computer Science for Engineers and Scientists.
  • Electrical engineering majors have access to a wide range of state-of-the-art computer systems and work in small groups in over 20 courses to solve real-world problems in electrical engineering.
  • The Wireless Engineering Option offered by the Electrical Engineering Department focuses on state-of-the-art communications technologies and devices employed in present and future wireless communication systems.
  • The Computer Engineering Option offered by the Electrical Engineering Department covers all key technologies of the design flow from concept to chip for the diversity of applications of complex digital systems.
  • The Sensors Engineering Option offered by the Electrical Engineering Department addresses both the devices and advanced algorithms used to acquire and exploit information for applications ranging from national defense and homeland security to supply-chain production monitoring and assistive technologies.
