Conference Highlights

 

Wright State University Campus

The venue will be the conference facilities of the Student Union of Wright State University located in suburban Dayton, OH.  Named in honor of the world-famous Wright brothers, Wright State continues their spirit of innovation. The university serves nearly 17,000 students, offering more than 100 undergraduate and 50 Ph.D., graduate, and professional degrees.  2007 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Wright State as an independent university in the state of Ohio and as an innovator in architectural and curricular accessibility for students with disabilities.

 

Keynote Speaker

 

Dr. Marcia Scherer is director of the Institute for Matching Person & Technology.  She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in Rehabilitation Psychology and in Applied Experimental and Engineering Psychology.  Dr. Scherer has authored numerous papers and books on assistive technology including Living in the State of Stuck: How Assistive Technology Impacts the Lives of People with Disabilities, now in its fourth edition.

 

 

Banquet

In keeping with the conference’s focus on innovative uses of technology, the Thursday evening banquet will be held at the nearby National Museum of the United States Air Force. NMUSAF is the world's largest and oldest military aviation museum.  Banquet attendees will be able to spend part of this private event browsing aircraft exhibits ranging from the Wright Brothers to ultra modern unmanned surveillance aircraft.

Entertainment at the banquet will be supplied by Dancing Wheels, the first modern dance company to integrate professional stand-up and sit-down (wheelchair) dancers. Mary Verdi-Fletcher, President and Founding Artistic Director, a pioneer in the field of integrated dance, started the company in 1980, and for more than a quarter of a century, Dancing Wheels has performed, taught and inspired children and adults of all abilities around the world. In the United States, the company presents more than 100 performances reaching audiences of 125,000 each year.

 

Exhibits

Conference attendees will have ample opportunities to interact with exhibitors representing assistive technology developers and vendors who have been invited to LWD-07.
