K-12 Teacher Professional Development

Effective teachers are constantly learning. Lesson Study is a professional development model in which teachers collaboratively plan, implement, observe, and improve lessons in K-12 education. Started in 2008 by faculty members of Wright State University, the Dayton Area Lesson Study Group has been focusing on:

  • Teachers with increased ability to anticipate, react to, and reflect on students' mathematical/scientific thinking
  • Teachers with increased understanding of mathematics/science
  • More focused, effective mathematics/science lessons with coherent mathematics/science curricula in K-8 schools
  • Students who are more engaged in their math/science lessons
  • Students with increased understanding of math/science
  • Communities of educators who are dedicated to the improvement of student academic performance through improved lesson planning
  • Research tools for assessing the impact of lesson study
