UMBC President Freeman A. Hrabowski, III, to Share Lessons Learned

Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski, III, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) since 1992, was this year’s guest speaker at LEADER’s Annual STEM Luncheon on October 26, 2010 at the University of Dayton. Hrabowski, who served as the principal investigator on his university's National Science Foundation ADVANCE grant, and who for decades has been a champion of expanding participation by minorities and women in STEM fields, addressed best practices and lessons learned in these areas, particularly as they relate to the transformation of institutional cultures.

In 2008, Hrabowski was named one of America’s Best Leaders by U.S. News & World Report, which in 2009 and 2010 ranked UMBC the #1 “Up and Coming” university in the nation and among the top colleges and universities in the nation for commitment to undergraduate teaching.  In 2009, Time magazine named him one of America’s 10 Best College Presidents.
