Dr. Cadance Lowell is the equity advisor for CSU, where she is a professor of biology. As CSU’s equity advisor, Dr. Lowell facilitates bias-free faculty searchers; reviews annual scorecard data for the institution, alerting the chair and/or dean of inequities based on salary, space and professional development; and implements equity programming aligned with the unique diversity needs of CSU.
At the institution, Dr. Lowell teaches botany, plant physiology, environmental science, and fundamentals of biology and oversees the campus greenhouse. She received her B.S. in botany from Duke University, an M.S. in botany from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in horticulture from the University of Florida. She conducted post-doctoral work with the USDA in Peoria, IL before joining Central State University. Committed to undergraduate research and teaching innovation, Dr. Lowell served as a STEM consultant to the Dayton Public Schools on a recent grant funded by the state of Ohio. She has also received grant funding from NSF and NIH.
Dr. Lowell’s most recent publications include A Natural History of a Natural Landmark (Parts 1 and 2), a proceedings for the Higher Learning Commission 2009 Annual Conference, and a publication titled Management Practices and Phytoremediation by Native Grasses to the International Journal of Phytoremediation. Dr. Lowell also serves as the director for the Miami Valley Science and Engineering Fair, a regional science fair that brings over 400 students in grades 5-12 to the CSU campus.
