What is Orientation?
Orientation is a program designed to assist students with making the transition to Wright State University. Participation in this new student program will improve students overall understanding of academic programs, course registration, student life, and university policies and procedures. Attending Orientation will set the tone for your entire college experience, so make sure to attend this welcoming, fun, and productive program.
During orientation you will:
- Connect with colleges, academic advisors, staff, and current Wright State University students.
- Get hands on experience using the WINGS/WINGS Express web portal and accessing electronic services.
- Gain familiarity with the campus resources
- Get more information regarding Welcome Week.
Is Orientation mandatory?
Yes, all incoming freshman and PSEO students are required to attend an orientation session.
What time of day is Orientation?
Orientation sessions will be offered at various times throughout the week day for your convenience.
What are the dates for Orientation?
Why does my registration form not include all of the above sessions, or have different dates on it?
Once a registration session is full, it will no longer appear on the registration form. If you are unable to attend one of the dates that appear on your registration form, please call (419) 586-0336.
How do I register for Orientation?
You can register for orientation online. You will need your UID and password to register.
What if I can't find my UID and password?
Your UID and password were given to you on your acceptance letter as well as in your orientation packet. If you still cannot locate this information please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827 or email@example.com.
Do I need to take math and English placement tests before Orientation?
You may be required to required to take Mathematics and/or English placement tests, depending on your ACT/SAT scores and previous classes taken. Please consult the Placement Tests page on the checklist to determine your needs.
How do I prepare for the math placement test?
It is to your advantage to review for the math placement test. Practice online with sample questions.
The math placement test could cover the following areas:
- Numerical skills/pre-algebra
- Beginning algebra/intermediate algebra
- College algebra
When you register for your placement test, you will see several examples of questions that are similar to those on the test.
Please note that the test does not include calculus. You can place in calculus by doing well in the college algebra and trigonometry sections. The test will start in Algebra II. You need to know this material extremely well to be able to see advanced algebra and trigonometry questions.
It is your responsibility to read all test policies and review testing material prior to taking the test.
What if I have questions concerning my Orientation registration?

Is there a cost to attend Orientation at Wright State University- Lake Campus?
No. Wright State University- Lake Campus does not charge for Orientation. There is a fee for students attending orientation the main campus of Wright State University in Dayton, OH.
Should a parent or guardian attend Orientation with their student?
Yes, parents/guardians are invited to attend the Orientation session with their student, as valuable information will be given during the session.
I have been told to attend an early Orientation session. What if I can't?
Yes, it is ideal for you to attend an orientation session as soon as possible. We all know life happens and it may be difficult to attend an early orientation session. The most important thing that you need to do is take your placement test and meet with an advisor as soon as possible. You can individually make these appointments by calling (419) 586-0300. You are still required to attend an orientation session at a later date.
How long will Orientation take?
Each orientation will last approximately three hours. You need to arrive at the time that the session starts. You will need to arrive early for registration.
Where can I find an agenda for orientation?
An agenda will be emailed to your WSU e-mail account a few days before the event.
