This one-day class will focus on what Differentiation IS, and what it is NOT. Attendees will discuss the four areas we can most effectively differentiate in our classrooms; will learn ideas for differentiation in the classroom; and will examine the role differentiation plays in RTI (Response to Intervention).

In this one day class, come and experience the newest SMART Board software. We will help you transform your classroom into the digital age. Learn how to set up and use a SMART Board interactive whiteboard, plus gain content based ideas for your classroom. Many of the examples presented are directed towards K-6, but can easily be adapted.

Participants will be producing their own writing in a risk-free environment. Various writing genres will be studied, including fiction and non-fiction. Writing for the OAT and OGT will be explored. Of particular interest to secondary teachers will be “College Writing: what kinds of writing do high school students need to do to prepare for college?” There will be ideas galore for integrating writing into the classroom, no matter what grade level!

Based on the GAISE (Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education) report, this course has six goals: Promoting statistical literacy among participants, leading participants to use real data, assisting participants to understand statistical concepts, providing contexts for active learning, facilitating learning through the potential of technology, and aligning summative and formative assessments to evaluate learning goals.

In this one day class, we will cover more advanced concepts such as linking pictures to the internet, recording a lesson (great for when you have a sub), and Lesson Activity Tool Kit, plus get a sneak peak at Lesson Activity Took Kit 2. Participants will then use a computer lab to create their own interactive lessons using the SMART NoteBook 10 software. So bring your teacher manuals, worksheets, or CD’s to receive hands on help on how to work SMARTER Not Harder!

Vocabulary learning remains a hot topic in literacy education. Have you taught and re-taught vocabulary, only to discover that your students still don’t recognize the words the next time they see them? Teachers everywhere struggle with how to teach vocabulary so that students actually learn and retain the words…and then demonstrate the ability to recognize and use the words in different settings and situations. This workshop will focus on the critical importance of vocabulary as a foundation for thinking, communicating, and problem-solving, both in and out of the classroom. Attendees will learn a variety of strategies to use in the classroom to teach vocabulary.

The primary purpose of the course is to deepen understanding of geometry and the relevance to the K-12 curricula. This is an inquiry-based activity oriented course enhanced by the technology of the Geometer’s SketchPad Software. Course goals include making conjectures, formulating mathematical arguments, and verifying conclusions. These goals will be achieved through the use of dynamic geometry software, ruler, protractor, compass and straight edge, etc.

This one-day workshop is designed to showcase the authors and interesting places in the area. The authors will share their passion for reading and writing in addition to discussing some of their works. Also invited to present is the Auglaize and Mercer County Convention and Visitors Bureau, who will reveal the interesting sights in this locality. Students may sign up for additional work and receive one (1) graduate quarter hour.

Visual Perception and Fine Motor Skills for the Classroom • ED 670-WE2 CRN 48375

Many students who struggle with reading have inefficient visual and motor skills. Teachers can be trained to identify the signs of visual inefficiency and instructed in classroom activities that will help to remediate. Participants will learn the signs of visual inefficiency and will also learn ideas for remediation. Please bring a 1½ inch binder with you on the first day.
