Wright State Biggest Multicultural Event - 'Wright State International Festival'
International Friendship Affair (IFA) currently named 'Wright State International Festival' is an annual event organized by the University Center for International Education to give the WSU students an opportunity to share their cultural heritage with surrounding communities. This is a chance for you to share your talents and cultural heritage with every one by performing (Dances, songs, play instruments etc.)
This year’s theme is “Innovations Around The World”.
Create the most colorful and interesting features of the Wright State International Festival: the Table Displays. This is your opportunity to present your culture and traditions of your home country by using interactive media, posters, books or any artifacts that you may have brought from your country. You are more than welcome to contact Dez or Dubem at (isidore.munyeshuli@wright.edu or ucie5@wright.edu) and they will provide you with the information that you need. The table displays must be ready by 12:30 pm on April 3rd, 2016 and the displays are expected to be open until 4:30 pm.
For more information contact Anoop at ucie19@wright.edu or Chugo at ucie18@wright.edu
Attention International Students - Tax Season is here
Filing Status and Dependent Issues
All married nonresident aliens must file their income taxes as “Married Filing Separately”, even if their spouse is not present in the U.S. Also, the “Head of Household” status cannot be used if you were a nonresident alien during any part of last year. Basically, this means that there are only two filing status options available to nonresident aliens and they are: “Single” and “Married Filing Separately”.
****Nonresident aliens who are married to U.S. citizens or other residents for tax purposes can elect to be treated as a resident alien and file a joint return.
As a general rule, nonresident aliens can claim only one personal exemption. That is, most nonresidents cannot claim an exemption for their dependents even if the dependents are U.S. citizens. Exemptions apply to nonresidents from Canada, Mexico, India, and South Korea who may be able to claim their spouse and children as dependents. Every one claimed on the return must have either a social security number or an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN).
Non-resident aliens claiming dependents need to file form W-7 along with their returns to apply for an ITIN number for their dependents.
Please be aware that each student/scholar is ultimately responsible for the accuracy of his/her income tax returns and any resulting penalties or interest.
