tax-season-2016.jpg7) Attention International Students: Tax Season is here!!!

Did You Know?

Even if you were in the U.S. only one day in 2015 (and despite the fact you may not have earned any income during 2015) you must file taxes by Friday, April 15th 2016 tax filing deadline. Don’t worry; over the course of the next couple months, we (at UCIE) will be sharing helpful hints every week to inform you about these responsibilities. UCIE will also be providing the GTP (tax) software (and workshop sessions) again this year to help you with your tax filing obligations.

What Happens If I Fail to File My Taxes?

The IRS can assess penalty and interest and seize U.S. bank assets for repayment. Fines and penalties can often amount to more than the original tax debt. There can also be immigration consequences for failing to file taxes. Applicants for permanent residency "green cards" are frequently asked to show proof of tax filing for previous years in the U.S.
Please review the UCIE weekly newsletter for information regarding Workshop Sessions and few tax-tips.
Please be aware that each student/scholar is ultimately responsible for the accuracy of his/her income tax returns and any resulting penalties or interest.

Questions?

If you have any questions regarding tax please don’t hesitate to email Surjeet at ucie23@wright.edu or visit UCIE website at https://www.wright.edu/ucie/student/tax.html for more information.
